The plan for the Oakland commons trust
The Oakland commons trust is founded on common law/natural law, the Constitution, and the original meaning of "life, liberty and estate". The Oakland commons trust means to correct a longstanding misdirection that has taken place since the signing of the magna carta. For hundreds of years, our laws and social contracts have been misused to disconnect people from their basic human right to enough land to pursue "life and liberty". This has caused the people to lose access to land ownership and to lose access to the fruits of the land.
The Oakland commons trust will reverse this by acquiring ownership of land within the city limits of Oakland that will be permanently set aside as a kind of conservancy for the human survival and cultural needs of the citizens of Oakland. The Oakland commons trust's most basic function and obligation is to always maintain a net expansion of the number of acres of land in Oakland dedicated to these purposes.
Priority access to land in the commons is given to the most insecure populations, including homeless residents, the working poor, ex-felons, military veterans, and artists and musicians. The commons trust should always enjoy an over-capacity of land and infrastructure in order to accommodate not only all of the insecure populations, but all of the housed citizens and tourists who will be attracted to this lifestyle.
All of the money, land, assets and intellectual property owned by the commons trust is visible within the commons database. The commons database also tracks labor contributions and the seniority of residents within the commons. The commons database is an essential tool for all of the stakeholders of the trust to practice good stewardship of the trust in perpetuity.
